I was finally motivated to make another post. For some reason, time goes by slower at work and I can find time to do this. My friend
Chris, high school and fellow comic bud started a blog recently and he has more posts than I do.
I would have posted last night but I busy looking and listening to
mp3 blogs all night last night. Really informative stuff. I've taken to reading and listening about the ones covering the history of punk with mp3's and scans of 7" covers featuring bands from the late 70's through 80's. That can take up a whole night. All in all, I had a busy weekend.
Backtrack to Thursday I went to
Kearny Street Workshop with a friend to catch
Goh Nakamura and my friends in
Golda Supanova. I haven't seen a lot of them for a while so it was good seeing old friends. The new space at 180 Capp St. is really cool. It has the 6th St. feel like at
Bindlestiff. The only thing is you got to climb 3 flights of stairs... There was a DIY art/crafts fair going on and it was really nice to see the place packed. 'Stiff represented, selling shirts and the CD compilation. I ran into
Jane Kim and congratulated her on a job well done in putting the Bindlestiff CD together. Your's truly can be seen in the back moshing with Ed and E. during the Signal 3 set at
Pinoisepop 9. Another useless Norm fact: Even though you can't hear it, I'm bellowing the background vocals to the
Eskapo track,"Fall of the I-Hotel". Friday I stayed at Kristi's and we watched Corpse's Bride, Mirrormask and Just Like Heaven. Grubbed on some kick ass Thai food from Ruen Thai. Saturday we went to the batting cages at
Scandia and suffered defeat at the arms of my woman in a hitting contest, as well as a pinball showdown. We then drove around Suisun through the sloughs and
Grizzly Island to check out the fishing. Next went to the comic shop at the waterfront where I picked up some comics mostly on
Brian Wood's Local and DMZ as well as a DC Direct Figure of a buffed out
Bane. (The guy who broke Batman's back)
The rest of Saturday night was laid back. I spent the night cleaning the computer room and organizing my stuff. Stayed up till 3am listening to
Maximum Rock and Roll Radio podcasts and reading some comics. Sunday, I spend time with Ogie, Jesse and Mr. Milo and saw Doogal. At first the animated short before the movie was promising, but the movie itself... It was terrible... Milo started getting restless. As a grown up there were a couple inside jokes, but hardly original. It pales in comparison to any of the Pixar or Dreamworks stuff put out. The story sucked and there were too many pop culture references to Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones. Afterwards we had lunch at L & L.
Spam musubi... yum...
We then went to Toys R Us, which if you don't know is closing down and liquidating everything! I managed to pick up a copy of
HALO 2 for 15 bux. What a deal! After chatting over some coffee and tea at starbucks, we all parted and I then went on my quest to find the
Ultimate Avengers Animated Movie. No luck at Rasputins. No luck at Target. I ended up renting it at Blockbuster... I spent the rest of the evening having dinner with my parents and we all watched
Grizzly Man. The documentary about the dude who got eaten by a bear. I kid you not... It really is a beautiful film, but tragic... and I have to admit, the guy was crazy to do what he did.
Hopefully, it isn't nearly year before I post again... But I can't make any promises... Until then.
